Find Your Way Through All the Options In The Wide World of Realty
Once you’ve found a reputable agent, start by doing some thinking about what you really want in a home, and what you can compromise on. Here are a few things to consider remember to discuss these points with your real estate agent to help them find you a just-right new home.
How close do you need to be to work, school, family, friends and hobbies? Think about what areas will be most convenient to the things most important to you, and the places you spend the most time. Which places is it most important for you to have close to your home? You can estimate the time and distance to many places using a simple ‘driving directions’ program to give yourself an idea. Take into consideration how you will commute, and what you will have easy, local access to in each new location.
Be space-wise. More square footage doesn’t always add up to more usable space. A smaller layout may actually suit your needs better than a larger one, all depending on how the space is used. When counting how many bedrooms you need, consider if you are likely to expand your family, and want more space, within a few years. When you think of bathrooms, consider other options as well. Depending on your needs, a one and a half bath could suit you as well as a two bathroom house. Let your realtor know where you can be flexible - you might be surprised what you’ll find.
Some say the devil’s in the details but sometimes, so is the price cut. While most people don’t want to take on expensive repairs such as windows, electrical or plumbing work, an older home may have many things that are reasonably quick and inexpensive to change or update. If you like the shape and style of kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, you can re-paint or re-face it later for an updated look without paying an updated price. The same is true of interior paint.
With a little flexible thinking, you have many more home buying options in any price range. Happy hunting!
